Marble Run

Parameters/Limitations:

  • Using ONE marble and ONE table, create a table-top marble track
  • The marble has to move for exactly 10 seconds
    • Timer starts when marble moves
    • Timer ends when marble stops
  • You may only use one table
  • The marble must not touch the ground
  • Use ALL the materials provided




Was the marble track successful?
  • Do you have evidence?
Could you explain how you could slow down a marble?
What other features could you add?
  • To speed up/slow down the marble
  • To add interest/creativity
Identify where gravity and friction are acting on the marble

  2. Hi I'm Stevie, I think this is a really creative challenge and I would like my class to try it too!! I loved how you gave instructions on what you can use and how long it has to move for. How long did it take you to make the table-top marble track?:)

  3. Hi I'm Nate from Kaitaia intermediate. I loved your marble track because our class does fun things like this too. Did you know the longest marble track ever was an incredible 1,918.12 meters long? (6,293.04 ft) across the small town of Elgg in Switzerland. Maybe next time you could add how long they were given to construct the marble track.

  4. Kia ora, My name is Faye. I think this is such cool maths to do. I would love to try this with my class some time. This reminds of when my class does "challenges". how it works is we get into groups and do a challenge like 'make shoes out of news paper, rope and tape. Keep up the great work.

It looks really fun and hopefully our teacher lets us do this too...what was the most hardest bit of making this marble track?

  6. That looks like a lot of fun. Hi I'm Robert we have also done tasks simular to that. we have made news paper shoe fashion shows,Popsicle stick towers. The 10 second marble run looks very fun and I want to do one,one day two.

  7. Hi I'm Bindi from Kaitaia Intermediate. You are good at creating a Marble run and I might try it sometime. This reminded me of the time when my class do activities in groups and we are being timed.Great I like how you explained us how to make a marble run,it really helps your story.
